Self Regulation:

Self-regulation refers to a child's ability to manage emotions, behaviors, and attention in response to different situations for example, in infants sucking their fingers for comfort, to toddlers using words instead of hitting, and to young children to managing their impulses during games like "Red Light, Green Light."  In the classroom, teachers can also support self-regulation by providing visual cues, consistent routines, and opportunities for guided practice.
