Middle Childhood (6-11 years):

 

Middle childhood is a critical period where social-emotional skills such as empathy, self-regulation, and peer-relationships are established, which are influenced in adolescent development. During these years, children move from family-focused to peer-focused, emotional regulation, identity and self-esteem.

 

Milestones:

  • Developing logical thinking (telling time).
  • Managing peer relationships and emotions (acceptance, and emotional regulation).

 

Classroom Strategies:

  • Morning meetings and collaborative group work.
  • Positive environment with clear routines (turning assignments).
